Jokhang Temple has a history of more than 1,300 years, and holds a paramount position in Tibetan Buddhism. It is the most magnificent surviving Tubo architecture, the earliest civil structure construction in Tibet, and the first temple of Tibetan-style layered structure.
Jokhang Temple is an eternal model of Tibetan-style religious buildings, in which Tibetan, ancient Chinese, Nepaulese and Indian styles are integrated together.
