Round-trip flight six-day tour-Show you an unusual journey
D1: Leave Shanghai for Lhasa by air (via another city). The guide will pick you up at Gongga Airport, and then take you to Lhasa; it’s about thirty minutes’ drive. You will see Giant Stone Buddha Nyetang on the cliff on the way to Lhasa. Please take a rest after arriving at the hotel to adapt to the high altitude, and live in the hotel at night. The street surrounded by rows of Tibetan-style buildings is known as Barkhor Street———–the most interesting circumanbulation in Lhasa.
D2: The first destination on the second day is the Potala Palace, the landmark of Lhasa. To the east of the Potala Palace, about 2km away, is the holy religious building Jokhang Temple. You will get a wonderful experience in Jokhang Temple: This place is the center of belief for the Tibetans, and the main commercial center. You will live in Lhasa at night.
D3: To the east of Lhasa, about 8km away, is Drepung Monastery. It was once the world’s largest temple, in which there were ten thousand monks. Climb the stairs of the white temple architecture and you will reach the picturesque summit, which will offer you a panoramic view of the Lhasa city. Drepung Monastery is one of the two famous Gelugpa temples in Lhasa, and the another one is Sera Monastery, which is in the north of the city, about 5km away, and famous for scripture debating. Tonight you’ll live in Lhasa.
D4: Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake-Gyangz-Shigatse. Yamdrok, 4,441 meters above sea level, is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. Start on the early morning and you will see the tortuous, steep mountain roads and even steep precipices and cliffs along the way. After an hour’s drive, you will reach the top of Gangbala Mountain that is 5,030 meters above sea level. Yamdrok Lake flows at the foot of the mountain like a sapphire jade belt, and there is snow falling in the distance. You will move forward along the lake for about 30km and see rows of highland barleys there. It’s very nice to take a walk by the lake. Then we will leave Yamdrok Lake and pass through Karuola Glacier, which is 5,045 meters above sea level. The road is dangerously steep. After driving through the glacier, you will cover another 90km before arriving at Gyangz. At the destination, you will see the famous ten thousand pagodas, as well as the exquisite sculptures and frescos around the pagodas. They are really a miracle in the history of Tibetan architecture. You will live in Shigatse at night.
D5: The golden roof of Tashilhunpo Monastery shines in the sun, and the appearance alone will hold you in high respect. After going inside, you will feel the atmosphere of solemnness. Nearby Tashilhunpo Monastery is the old urban district of Shigatse, and it’s a fine choice to walk around there. The typical Tibetan vernacular dwellings and noisy market will show you the vivid scene of life peculiar to the local Tibetans. After that, you will return to Lhasa and live in Lhasa.
D6: leave Lhasa for Shanghai (via another city). Pack your suitcase and prepare to leave Lhasa. The guide will take you to the airport and help you with boarding. Goodbye!
